About Me
Artist | Photographer | Documentary Filmmaker
Medellín, Colombia
Camilo Díaz is a visual storyteller who believes in the transformative power of images. For nearly two decades, his work—spanning fine art photography, documentary filmmaking, and large-scale visual narratives—has sought to bridge the gap between humans, nature, and the unseen threads that connect them. His lens captures the extraordinary hidden within the ordinary, from the depths of Colombia’s oceans to the heart of Southeast Asia’s jungles.
Trained as a Master of Fine Arts (National University of Colombia, 2006), Díaz has developed a signature style that blends painterly compositions with documentary realism, creating enigmatic visuals that challenge perceptions. His projects are more than images; they are conversations about conservation, cultural identity, and the fragile beauty of our planet.
A Global Journey
Díaz’s documentary work has taken him to the frontlines of ecological transformation. Collaborating with organizations such as WWF, Rolex – Mission Blue, Malpelo Foundation, and the Omacha Foundation, he has created powerful audiovisual narratives that document endangered ecosystems and the communities fighting to protect them across Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
His stories have been featured internationally, most notably by The Times, where his photography has helped bring urgent conservation narratives to a global audience. His work has also appeared in The Telegraph, GEO Magazine, CNN, IBTimes, and Natphoto, making him a key voice in environmental and cultural storytelling.
In 2025, Díaz was honored at the Istanbul Photo Awards, further cementing his reputation as a leader in environmental visual storytelling. In 2024, he received two Tokyo International Foto Awards, building on a legacy that includes being named In-water Photographer of the Year in London and receiving the Sony World Photography Awards in 2017. His work has also been awarded in Budapest and showcased at Carnegie Hall in New York in a separate year.
Whether collaborating with brands like Adidas and Huawei or mentoring the next generation of artists, Díaz continues to merge artistry with impact.
Why He Creates
“I tell stories to change how people walk through the world—to spark curiosity, wonder, and, above all, empathy.”
Every project, from intimate portraits to sweeping environmental campaigns, is rooted in this purpose. Through unconventional settings, symbolic use of animals and human subjects, and a technique that echoes classical painting, Díaz invites viewers to pause, question, and reconnect with the stories we often overlook
